“Moea”, is a 45 foot sailing catamaran, designed for fast, easy, safe and autonomous round-the-world cruising (or just weekend sailing), adapted for full operation from a wheelchair. She is a lengthened “TS 42” catamaran, built in 2015 by Marsaudon (French race-boat builder), enhanced with a rotating carbon mast for performance.
Moea has been reviewed very favorably by Multihulls magazine as "Solutions for the Future" (see attached link to a detailed article, with photos). This adapted version is as fast, roomy and sea-worthy as the standard TS 42. It sleeps 7 for off-shore, but can legally accommodate 20 passengers for near-shore sailing. Yet, wheelchair access is exhaustive: from the dock, to the cockpit, front deck, saloon, galley, berth, bathroom, tender, and sea (for swimming).
Handling of all sails is
power-assisted (solar charged) and can be performed by a single person from the safety of the cockpit or saloon. This
could also be of great interest to older-yet-adventurous sailors, or anyone whose physical strength or mobility is challenged on
a big boat.
And all of this in a really fast cruiser: A TS42 won the ARC (multihull class) in 2017. Comment from that owner/skipper: “She’s perfect for cruising and fast enough to compete in a race. Furthermore, she gives me confidence.”
